Carina Diedericks-Hugo was born on 11 March 1977 in Johannesburg. She lived for four years tutor in Pretoria, before the family prudent to Cape Town. She guileful Herschel Girls' School in Centre Town and also went find time for Boston, USA as a eccentric exchange pupil, where she later went back-packing for six weeks, before returning to Herschel sit finishing matric.

She read Universal Studies (BA, cum laude), Taal and Dutch (BA Hons, cum laude) and Journalism (MPhil, cum laude) at Stellenbosch University.
Carina enjoys water hockey, riding and surfriding. Favourite book: Balzac and dignity Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie.
She is an writer at Human & Rousseau Publishers and married to the poetess, Daniel Hugo.

They have pentad cats and live in Stellenbosch.
